Raw Material Control: Receive, Track and Trace

The wireless SPEDE Raw Material module automates and controls the Receiving, Warehousing, Tracking and Traceability of Raw Material inventory, providing real-time visibility and control at the serialized unit level.

This PC server-based solution interfaces to any host ERP and EDI system for real-time data exchange and automatic host updates.

Built on a 802.11 platform, SPEDE Raw Material supports a variety of RF and RFID devices to capture and verify transactions in real-time, and streamline processes to increase efficiency.

Highlights include:

  • Prints serialized labels for tracking and traceability
  • Automates Receiving to reduce labor, expedite material flow, and update inventory in real-time
  • Verifies Raw Material receipts to PO or EDI data
  • Automates Putaways, Warehousing, Cycle counts, Issuing to WIP
  • 24/7 access to a real-time, granular database of Inventory and Event data for to improve efficiency and decision-making
  • Lot and Serial Traceability from Receiving into Production
  • Eliminates Physical Counts and related labor costs and down-time
  • Transacts with host ERP / EDI systems, yet runs independently to ensure 24/7 uptime
  • Supplier Labeling enables your Suppliers to label your Raw Material via the Internet

Using Serial Numbers for Accurate Tracking

Tracking Inventory using Mobile RFID Reader

Real-time Inventory Tracking with Symbol RFID

By tracking units of Raw Material at the Serial number level, you can:

  • Increase inventory accuracy to 99.99+ %
  • Minimize safety stock
  • Eliminate lost inventory and obsolescence
  • Reduce material and overhead costs
  • Track inventory by Lot Number and Serial Number

SPEDE Raw Material uses item Serial Numbers to:

  • Validate Putaway and Issue transactions to prevent errors
  • Enforce FIFO rules
  • Provide real-time inventory visibility at a granular level, instead of Summary, day-old totals that ERP systems typically provide.

Electronic Lot / Serial Traceability

As a by-product of scanning inventory transactions from Receiving to Shipping, SPEDE automatically creates electronic Lot Traceability and Serial Traceability records.

These transactions or "Critical Tracking Events ", are stored in the SPEDE Event Database. You can readily access this data using standard data mining tools. If a quality problem occurs, you can locate and trace suspect Raw Material units backward to Suppliers, and forward into Work-in-Process.

Should a QC issue arise, these Event records will provide the "Who, What, When, Where and Why" details that are essential to:

  • Pinpoint the cause or start of a QC problem
  • Identify the specific units of Raw inventory affected - by Lot / Serial Number range, P.O., Supplier, etc.
  • Locate and Quarantine all suspect Lots / Serial Numbers of Raw Material units
  • Trace Backward suspect Lots /Serial numbers of Raw Material units to Suppliers
  • Trace Forward suspect Raw Material units issued to Production Lots / Serial numbers, and further Forward to Finished Goods, if needed
